I've been enjoying this writing thing. I'm making the FP, and people are actually reading my stuff. Wow! For my next trick... Um... I don't know. I can write about autocross, rally, track days... How well ham radio integrates with rally (I'm actually giving a presentation on that topic at a local radio club meeting in two weeks). I can write about Saturns (I've owned and raced 4). I can write about Miatas, but everyone else does. I can write about my BRZ, but I don't want to replace DeMuro as "that guy who won't shut up about his stupid sports car." Or I can write about something completely different. Any suggestions? Anything you've read in stuff I already wrote that you'd like to read more about?

Also, I'm not responsible for the rolled Miata in the pic.

You should be the guy that writes about shellfish.

Saturn. In my opinion, the SC series is the most overlooked car ever sold in America. No one seems to remember them or give a shit about them, but they've always been a good Civic alternative to me, and can usually be found in better shape for a third of the price.

Write about how the Miata is the modern MGB and how modern Miata drivers are alike or different to the elbow patched MGB drivers of old.

It's hard to find an SC in decent shape anymore, especially a 91-96. I agree, they were a great Civic alternative - in 1991, against the EF. Not so much after 10 years of Civic refinement, with only tiny updates. And then they replaced it with the Ion - a friggin Cobalt.

Not that I have opinions on the matter or anything.

But yes, they're good cars. GM just didn't allow Saturn to keep up with the times until it was too late, then just threw a bunch of rebadged Opels at them.

It's true - the early Miatas are older than the newest MGBs were when the Miata came out. The earliest ones can now be registered as antiques! Thanks for making me feel old...

My Barracuda was in the shop, so I was in a rented Stingray...

A story on Saturns as racecars would be quite cool I'd say, not many living outside NA have ever seen one, not to mention ever driven one.

Yeah, now that I think of it, pretty much all of the SCs I see are the facelifted model, but they're pretty much the same car otherwise. It might be a Florida thing, though. It seems like there are a surprising number of cars for sale here for practically nothing that are hard to find or expensive elsewhere. People from up north say that AW11s are almost impossible to find, but here I can pick them up (ratty, but mechanically sound) for under a grand at the drop of a hat. One of the advantages to living in a place where the only two seasons are tourist season and hurricane season has its advantages. Jalop-worthy cars that are notorious for rusting tend to last longer down here since we don't need to salt our roads.

Tell us about the Saturns. Racing Saturns may be the most Jalop thing I've heard in 2015 so far.

That's rather easy though.. Ahem.. "The Mazda MX-5 (Miata) is the modern equivalent to the old British roadsters (the MGB springs to mind). Small, lightweight and somewhat underpowered cars that are quite fun to toss around, the owners/drivers tend to be somewhat of the same type as well (read: Anoraks), the only difference is that they don't wear tweed jackets with elbow patches anymore, they now wear t-shirts that have some strange writing on them and a cap that says Zoom Zoom ."

I'd like to see some short stories about rodents as race car drivers. Possibly some romance involved. Star crossed lovers like a squirrel and chipmunk.

Actually, don't do that. I may have to try my hand at this to see where it goes.

I'd suggest writing about what you know. Your experiences racing the Saturn's could be quite interesting, as most people don't see them as anything worth racing. And the HAM Radio / Rally thing could be interesting to a subset of people.

More than anything else, write what you want to write, since this is just a hobby (unless and until you can turn it into something more), I would also make sure that it's a topic you want to write about.

"I Raced A Saturn And It Didn't Suck"

Actually, through the now defunct Saturn Performance Club and Saturn Performance Owners Club, I've seen a lot of Saturn race cars, up to and including a successful ITA road race car. I'll have to dig for pictures, but as Gamecat235 suggested I'd definitely be writing about what I know.

Thanks for the suggestions!

If you're up for something completely different, the King of the Hammers race/event is happening in the first week of Feb. A real eye opener and great event that's like the Burning man of 4x4's.

I'm on the east coast so that's a bit far for me. Looks cool though.

I am planning on hitting the New England Auto Show in Boston. Not sure what that'll inspire - probably just random ramblings about what I see and what I think of it.
